How to Romanticize Your Life (Even When You’re Folding Towels)

Let’s be honest.

Most days feel less like a romanticized Instagram post and more like a rerun of “I have 20 things on my list, but accomplished negative 1.”

I’ve been thinking about something lately—

What if the romance isn’t in changing your life…

But in creating joy and fulfillment?

……Yes, even while folding towels for the fifth time this week.

It’s not about WHAT you do, but HOW you are doing it.

Why JOY in the Mundane Matters

Two things I know: 1. Life was meant to be LIVED. 2. Getting by is not LIVING. You see, we all (or at least most of us) have seasons of failure, barely scraping by, heartbreak, and disappointment. Philippians 4:12-13 says, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Joy is a choice….Gratitude is a choice.

How to Romanticize Your Life: 4 Simple Ideas

• I light a candle like I’m about to take a bath in a castle. (Plot twist: I’m scrubbing toilets and sanitizing bathroom counters.)

• I put on a playlist that makes me feel like the main character in a movie. Can we be real? I am the main character in my life (hair flip). Honestly, if we can’t be the main character in our own lives, then what are we doing?

• I pour sparkling water into a wine glass (sometimes it tastes like actual wine…weird, I know) because hydration can be dramatic too….and I cook dinner like it’s therapeutic…while two feral sons are running around the dining room. (They get that from their father’s side)

• I whisper “thank you” for the chaos, the crumbs, and the chance to be here for it all….honestly, because I know that these moments are fleeting and that a time will come when I will miss the chaos and the overexaggerated sighs followed by stomping down the hall and eye rolling so excessive that you say that “thing” that your mom used to say, “Better watch out or your eyes are gonna get stuck back there.”

No, it’s not always glamorous. But it can be beautiful.

Because joy isn’t something you chase.

It’s something you cultivate. Right where you are.

So today, I wanted to remind you that you are doing a great job, no one is perfect, and to fold the towels slowly….knowing that each moment matters to someone…even if they don’t know how much it matters yet. Breathe deeply.

YOUR LIFE WAS MEANT TO BE LIVED AND ENJOYED.

And remember—gratitude doesn’t wait for a grand moment. It creates one.
