A PRAYER FOR THE BROKEN HEARTED

Life

When I met Dominic and as we were getting to know each other, I told him that my soul was tired.  I was emotionally and spiritually worn out.  My first memory of brokenness was when I was three years old, and I continued to experience heart break until about a year before I met my husband.

I HAD NEVER LEARNED TO HEAL

Part of the reason for so much prolonged pain was that I had never learned to heal.  I was metaphorically putting water on emotional fires without making sure the fire was fully out.

While experiencing pain and heart ache are a normal part of the human experience, it is only one of the experiences on the spectrum and we do not have to live there.

GOD CARES ABOUT OUR HEARTS AND OUR LIVES.

God’s love for his people is clearly expressed throughout the Bible.  Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Proverbs 15:29 says “The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.”

THE LORD IS CLOSE TO THE BROKENHEARTED

Here is a prayer that you can use to pray over yourself or a loved one during a time of brokenness:

Dear God,

You have promised to be close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) and right now I _________ (insert name for you or a loved one) need you now.  My heart is broken and I’m not sure what to do in this moment.  You have instructed me to pray when I am suffering.  (James 5:13). You have said to fear not for you are with me.  You will strengthen me and help me.  (Isaiah 41:10) I am choosing to trust you at your word understanding that I don’t see the future before me, but You know what lies ahead.  I choose to lay this situation at your feet, trusting that You will sustain me. (Psalm 55:22) You said those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. (Psalm 126:5) Lead me and guide me as I navigate this difficult situation so that I end up walking straight into Your will for me.  Help me to keep my mind stayed on you so that I am walking in perfect peace.  (Isaiah 26:3) I believe that you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth, you will bring me up. (Psalm 71:20) I choose to trust You.  Help me learn to trust you more every day.  Thank you for hearing my prayer.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
